A List of Registered ITRON-specification Products

As of October 1, 1996 the products listed in the table are registered under the ITRON-specification Product Registration System. Some of these products were newly registered after the system was revised as of October 1, 1996, while other products that were registered under the old system are no longer supported by their vendors and have been dropped from the list. The ITRON Technical Committee requests vendors to actively register their new products, while helping us keep the list up to date by removing older, unsupported products.

ITRON-related Publications

Listed below are the publications prepared and issued by the ITRON Technical Committee as of December 1, 1996. The ITRON-µITRON Standard Handbook is a one-volume compilation of µITRON (Ver 2.0) and ITRON2 specifications. Each of the publications below can be obtained directly from the sources indicated.

The latest version of µITRON3.0 is Ver 3.02.00. Changes made since the µITRON3.0 Standard Handbook was released (Ver 3.00.00) are noted in Newsletter No.5 and No.11, as well as in ITRON Standard Guidebook 2.

The ITRON Standard Guidebook 2 deals primarily with µITRON3.0. The earlier ITRON Standard Guidebook '92-'93 remains as a valuable reference for use with the µITRON (Ver 2.0) and ITRON2 specifications, even though the dates in its title are now past.

Microcomputer System & Tool Fair

The TRON Association presented exhibits relating to the ITRON specifications at the Microcomputer System & Tool Fair, which was held November 13 through 15, 1996, at the Ikebukuro Sunshine City building in Tokyo. The Microcomputer System & Tool Fair is put on annually by the Japan System House Association, introducing microcontroller systems and development tools for embedded systems.

The TRON Association booth consisted of panels and displays of project documents, as well as a personal computer connected to the ITRON Web site. Visitors were able to view the English-language µITRON3.0 specifications, the ITRON Newsletter and the ITRON home page. ITRON-based products were to be seen in various booths on the trade show floor, among them implementations for the PowerPC, ARM and other processors for which a µITRON-specification OS was not available until recently. As has now become customary, vendors of ITRON-specification products showed their support for the ITRON project by placing placards in their booths with the ITRON logo. The 28 companies listed in the table cooperated in this way, for which we would like to express our keen appreciation.

The RTOS (Real-Time OS) Symposium held in parallel with the trade show featured a keynote address by ITRON Technical Committee chairman Kiichiro Tamaru of Toshiba Corporation, who spoke on the theme, "RTOS trends and application to new products." Mr. Tamaru talked about the need for middleware (software parts) for use with embedded systems, noted the growing importance of hard real-time systems, and introduced the recently formed ITRON Hard Real-Time Support Study Group.

The TRON Project Symposium

The 13th TRON Project Symposium took place this past December 5 and 6 in Tokyo's Minato-ku. At the sessions reporting on the latest status of each subproject, Fujitsu's Yasuhiro Kobayashi presented an update on ITRON. A paper on ITRON was given in the technical presentations session on December 5, from 3:00 to 3:15 p.m.

At TRONSHOW ' 96, a technology exhibition held in conjunction with the symposium (December 4 to 6), there were a number of exhibits relating to the ITRON specifications. Details of the symposium and TRONSHOW are given in TRONWARE Vol.43.

Recent Works on ITRON

The December 1996 issue of Interface magazine (by CQ Publishing) has a special feature on designing real-time systems. Section 5, on "Embedding a µITRON-specification OS in an SH-1 Board," explains how to run a µITRON-specification OS on an SH-1 microcontroller evaluation kit. It then goes on to describe performance measurement techniques and gives actual measurement results. The author is Hisanori Miyazaki.
